“I am a printmaker working with patterns of ‘affidavit’ paper from Pakistan. Also known as ‘stamp’ or ‘oath’ paper, it depicts national emblems such as the crescent and the star, with other repetitive motifs. The paper resonates with many people as proof of belonging, often hidden away for safekeeping, its value increases with time, often becoming an heirloom.
This region has been enriched by diverse cultures; I draw on this rich melting pot for inspiration for my designs. These miniature fabric dresses have been constructed around the patterns from the stamp, transforming the value of the beautifully patterned paper affidavit into tiny attire.”
