“Furoshiki (風呂敷) are a type of traditional Japanese wrapping cloth traditionally used to transport clothes, gifts, or other goods. Traditional materials are silk and cotton.
I picked this up in Kyoto in 2015, and have framed it in a huge frame above my sofa as a reminder of a wonderful trip. I love peonies so this caught my eye immediately, I love the colours, the freedom of the brushwork and the fact it is clearly oriental. Kyoto is one of my favourite cities I’ve ever visited. I love that this is a modern piece of textile work but done in the style of furoshiki. It wasn’t particularly expensive but is invaluable to me.”
