Fist Moroccan present from Barbara. Berber embroidered purse
“My collection of textiles is in memory and honour of my best friend and soul sister Barbara. 12 years ago, we began taking groups to the Moroccan Sahara and different areas of Morocco. It soon became our passion; our trips gave us the opportunity to spend time together and share our passion for Morocco.
We both loved the textiles of Morocco and particularly the more rustic Berber rugs and wall hangings. The embroidered purse was the first present Barbara bought me on our first trip to the desert. It was made by a local woman who is the aunt of one of our regular crew. I treasure it.
The highly decorated and sparkly djellabas were bought in Morocco for a dance performance in the desert with our Berber guide and third member of Desert Dance Healing, Allal. The other textiles: cushions and wall hangings we have bought over the years together.
Following Barbara’s death, I have acquired all her Moroccan artifacts and textiles. I am gifting the purple djellaba, scarves, wall hangings and cushions to those friends who knew her.”
